Treatment of Urinary Tract Infection in Diabetes Mellitus and Non-Diabetes Mellitus Patients in a Tertiary Care Hospital

Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess the treatment cost of urinary tract infection in diabetes mellitus and non-diabetes mellitus patients. Objective of the study was to assess the incidence of UTI in Diabetes and Non-Diabetes Mellitus patients, Find if any correlation between UTI in Diabetes Mellitus and Non-Diabetes Mellitus patients, To estimate the cost of illness evaluation in Diabetes Mellitus and Non-Diabetes Mellitus patients with UTI. A total of 235 participants were included, who were randomized into two groups: Diabetic73.2% (N = 172) Non-diabetic 26.8% (N = 63). UTI was significantly higher in diabetic patients compared to the nondiabetic patients. In this study we concluded that appropriate measures may help to reduce UTI. If appropriate treatment and routine check-ups are helpful to the prevention of UTI can be achieved at a comparatively lower cost. It is the responsibility of the pharmacist to conduct more educational programming about UTI to prevent not only to reduce the sufferings of the patients and also to decrease their hospital stay and thereby reduce cost.
