Development and Evaluation of Vetiver-Based Aromatherapy-Inspired Pen Designed for Doctor to Provide a Subtle Aromatic Sensory Experience to Healthcare Professionals during Routine Prescription Writing

Healthcare professionals, particularly doctors, often experience mental fatigue and stress due to prolonged working hours and continuous patient consultations. These conditions may affect concentration and overall well-being during routine tasks such as prescription writing. The present study aims to develop and evaluate a vetiver-based aromatherapy-inspired pen designed to provide a subtle aromatic sensory experience during routine prescription writing. The pen incorporates a specially prepared writing ink containing vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides) extract, allowing the gradual release of its natural aroma while maintaining smooth writing performance. The vetiver extract will be prepared using a suitable extraction method and incorporated into a compatible ink formulation without affecting its physicochemical properties or writing quality. The formulated ink will then be filled into a specially designed pen to develop the final product. Vetiver is well known for its calming, grounding, and stress-relieving properties due to the presence of bioactive volatile compounds. The mild fragrance released during writing is expected to promote relaxation, improve concentration, and provide a pleasant sensory experience without causing discomfort to patients or interfering with routine clinical practice. The developed pen will be evaluated for various parameters, including ink viscosity, pH, drying time, flow characteristics, aroma retention, writing smoothness, stability, leakage resistance, and user acceptability. Sensory evaluation and preliminary user feedback from healthcare professionals may also be conducted to assess the effectiveness of the product. This innovative product combines aromatherapy with a commonly used medical instrument, offering a simple, non-pharmacological approach to supporting the mental well-being of doctors.
