Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become an important tool in improving the treatment and management of diabetes, a condition that affects millions of people around the world. AI helps healthcare professionals make more accurate diagnoses, choose suitable treatment plans, and predict patient outcomes. In the reviewed study, researchers analysed 77 research papers to understand how AI is being used to improve diabetes care. They examined the types of AI models, the data used, the stages of implementation, and the different healthcare applications. The review found that AI is mainly contributing in two ways. First, it supports personalized treatment by adapting care to the unique needs and health conditions of individual patients. Second, it improves therapeutic decision-making by optimizing treatment strategies, leading to better disease management and patient outcomes. The study also pointed out some challenges that still need to be addressed. Many existing AI models rely on limited types of data and often lack transparency, making it difficult for healthcare providers to understand and trust their recommendations. However, with continuous improvements in AI technologies and the increasing availability of healthcare data, these limitations are expected to decrease. Overall, AI has the potential to make diabetes care more accurate, personalized, and effective, supporting better clinical decision-making and improving the quality of life for people living with diabetes.
